ONE DAY PROGRAMME ON MEDICINAL PLANTS Organized by Dept. of Botany in association with Nagarjuna Ayurvedic group Date:1/2/2024 Venue: Botany Herbal Garden and Seminar Hall The programme began at 10 AM in the Herbal garden of Department of Botany with a silent prayer. Dr. Shintu P.V., Head of the Department and Co-ordiator of the programme welcomed the gathering. Dr.Krishnan Namboothiri (Director & chief Physician) Dr. Baby Joseph (Herbal Medicinal plant Cultivation and Promotion Manager) technicians and staffs from and Nagarjuna Ayurvedic group, Principle Dr. Preethi Nair Sree Sankarara College, teaching,non teaching staff, and students of Dept. of Botany were gathered in the programme. The Herbal Garden setting was inaugurated by Dr. Preethi Nair, Principal, Sree Sankara College by planting an Asoka tree in the garden. It was followed by planting 30 herbal medicinal plants by teachers and students.The session was ended with a tea break at 11 AM. The seconed session resumed at seminar hall at 11. 15 AM by Dr. Krishnan Namboothiri. He well explained the importance of medicinal plants, their importance in biodiversity and the needd of protecting these medicinal plants. It was followed a talk on “Common medicinal plants” by Dr. Baby Joseph (Herbal Medicinal plant Cultivation and Promotion Manager, Nagarjuna group) and ended with a quiz competition among the students followed by prize distribution for the winners. Third session resumed at Seminar hall after the lunch braek . A free Bone Marrow Density test scan was organized by Nagarjuna team for the staff and students of Sree Sankara College followed by Medical consultation for better health. The entire session was ended by Signing a MoU between Sree Sankara College and Nagarjuna Group regarding the maintenance of Herbal garden.
